Kastehelmi (in Finnish - "dewdrop") collection was inspired by dewdrops that glisten like strings of pearls in the morning sunlight. Circles of fine bubbles in pressed glass give each item in the collection a different character. The Kastehelmi collection was created in 1964 by the Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka. Toikka came up with the idea of using glass drops as a way to hide the joints created during the manufacturing process. The result was a unique surface design featuring rings of tiny glass bubbles protruding from the center of the object. For over fifty years, Kastehelmi has been one of Iittala's most beloved collections.
